Functional characterization of human Th17 cells

PD Dr. Eva Tolosa (AG Immunregulation)

Th17 cells have been shown to play a significant role in the development of experimental autoimmune disease. To assess the impact of Th17 cells in human disease, we use T cell clones and ex-vivo cells to study the functional properties of Th17 cells. Our research focuses on finding the features that make Th17 cells pathogenic in autoimmune disease, their plasticity to the environment, and in dissecting the role of the innate immune cells in directing a Th1 or a Th17 response.
