Characterization and function of regulatory T cells in glomerulonephritis

Prof. Dr. Gisa Tiegs (AG Experimentelle Immunologie und Hepatologie)

Though the ability of regulatory T cells (Tregs) to suppress several immune pathologies is well established, little is known with respect to regulation of immune-mediated renal disease by these cells. This project intends to analyze mechanisms by which Tregs administered for cellular immunotherapy suppress glomerulonephritis (GN), to study GN associated defects of Tregs, and to investigate whether immunosuppressive drugs induce Tregs in mice and in patients.
